It is important as a reader to understand the many important features that a story can have, Such as Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. My book, Number The Stars by Lois Lowry is about a young girl named Annemarie living in times when the Jews are being relocated or killed. Being a strong proud Jew Annemarie goes through hard times to help her friend. In my book Number The Stars, by Lois Lowry a young ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen passes through a variety of events, like running into Nazi soldier's, being in school, and having food shortages. I think the main plot of this book is that Annemarie's life and those who she shares it with live a poor life by the Nazi's. The setting's in Number The Stars is taken place in the Denmark, 1940. I know this because on it says in the summary, and also because Denmark was one of the city's under the control of the Europeans during the Holocaust. The characters in my book are Annemarie, her mom, her dad, her sister Kristi, her friend Ellen, and Ellen's family.Annemarie is very gentle, caring, smart, and spontaneous. She shows she's very caring in the first page of chapter two. Annemarie's sister Kirsti wanted her to read her bed time story, she read when kirsty fell asleep, she kept telling the story even though Kristi was asleep because she felt like she had to finish the story for her little sister. This shows me how caring she is to her little sister, even though she gets on her nerve's. I think the universal theme is how society reacts. Annemarie and her family reacted badly when the Nazi's wanted to find Ellen's family. They opposed they're own race by helping the Jews excape from Denmark, to free land.
Number the stars, I think will be even more interesting as i go reading along. It has helped me understand a little about the life of people during the hard times of the Holocaust.

9.5.10 - 9.8.10 Week 7
It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.
It's very important to understand and know what is happening in our books. If we don't then we are just reading continuous words put together in a way to make sense to the reader. The Book Thief, by Markuz Zusak is a Book isn't the usual read it understand and move on book, no sir, I think it's a Life Changing kind of book. It makes you think about many things like your future, and how it would feel to die. The book is straight forward. With a shocking sentence, page 1, reads," ... Here is a small fact... You are going to Die. We all know this, right?, but why is the character bringing it up? The diversity's of this book will be interesting and it makes me eager to keep reading.
The plot is sort of confusion and hard to understand, but the events that occur in my book, The Book Thief, are not exactly put as events but as the thoughts of the character that has a connection to events he's been through. I'm only on page 5 so The events are pretty much that the character, who is Death, goes through the process of hourly, minutely, second by second, be watching you die and holding those people in his arms, noticing the colors that describe each person. Example; on page 4 it says, "Your soul will be in my arms. A color will be preached on my shoulder."
The setting of my book is easy to understand, if your me of course. If the character Death and he picks up souls, I imagine the setting must take place in the " other World' or the after life. because he's like a god, he sees what you do and knows when things are going to happen. So the setting is in between two world's, heaven and infernal hell.
So far the main character is unpleasant by his temperance, but he can be amiable. agreeable. affable. You don't have to know how he's like to know it's name is taunting, He is, DEATH. The main character is a wise person, with experience, and admirable for the thing he notices that other don't. like colors. On page 4 it reads," ... A Small Theory ... People observed the colors of day only at its beginnings and ends, but to me it's quite clear that day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colors. Waxy yellows, cloud-spat blues. Murky darknesses. In my line of work, i make it a point to notice them. The character of my book is exquisite at wording his precise straight to the point sentences.
The Universal is theme is the over all purpose for a book, it could be a message about life or something like that. The Book Thief, the messages about life are really juxtapose because it carries from one message about something to another. I think the universal is the most important thing to have in mind when reading because, some people like myself like to find the purpose the author wrote and what point they're trying to get at. I think the universal theme for The Book Thief, is to try to do as much as you can everyday that you enjoy doing, because you never know when it's your turn to sleep forever. Even the little things, enjoy them and try to be thankful of living life.
