It is important to use our observations/knowledge of the world around us to understand and make meaning out of what we read. Thinking about your experience with the writing excursion, how much importance does your author place on how two characters in your book dress/look? How do you know this?
The importance of our observations and knowledge of the world is very deep and extremely necessary in a life especially in trying to know what your purpose is and who you are as a person. The book I'm reading, Sold By: Patricia McCormick . Has an author that doesn't really get into detail about how the characters dress, but she does a great job going to detail about the world the characters live in and make you think ' Wow, this person must be pretty poor'' and show how they mistreat their money. Like in page 1 to 2 it talks about the poor lack of roof they have and how with the money the dad makes he buys a vest. I'm only on page 36 and its only been talking about the life of a young poor girl trying to make her life right by working and going to school.
Thinking about my writing excursions and how important I think it is to detail the characters way of dress walk speak etc.. The author up to the page I'm reading hasn't put much interest in how the way the characters dress. So I think the authors view of writing the dialogue and the situations the people are in make you think and get involved in thinking about peoples life in terms of the way they dress. The importance of telling the reader the way people dress is not important because I guess the author has the intention of making you think deeply and make you understanding that some people rather do more important stuff than have a detailed way of dress.
Sergio,
ReplyDeleteI like that you are thinking about how your author doesn't put emphasis on the way that the characters dress because she is trying to bring your attention to other aspects of the story. That is an interesting insight. Why, do you suppose, the author would do this? How is she bringing you into the story and getting you involved with the characters if she isn't describing the way the characters look? I'm also curious as to how else you could show your support for your thinking...
